Chang Hua, Taiwan – The Taiwanese Bicycle Association (TBA) has released information on the export of bicycles and e-bikes from Taiwan during the first nine months of this year. The figures show that while the quantity of exports of traditional bicycles from Taiwan are still falling slightly, exports of e-bikes are continuing to skyrocket.

E-Bikes
According to the supplied data, Taiwan exported 195,472 e-bike units from January through to the end of September, 2018, this is a 47% increase from the 132,134 units exported during the same period last year. During this period, the total value of these e-bike exports jumped from approximately $177 million to $269 million, an increase of over 50%.

While exports of e-bikes to The Netherlands remained the most numerous with 50,345 units, e-bike exports to The USA more than doubled to 37,311 in the first nine months of this year. A total of 131,948 e-bikes with an average value of $1291 were exported to The EU during this period.

Traditional Bicycles
While Taiwan's exports of traditional (non-power assisted) bicycles continue to fall during the first nine months of the year, this decrease had slowed down from drops seen in recent years. Furthermore, a continued increase in average unit value more than offset the decreased quantity and total export value of traditional bicycles rose by 14% compared to the same period last year.

Taiwan exported 1,656,638 traditional bicycles from January to September, 2018, a 6.9% decrease from the same period last year. The average unit value of these exports was $658—an increase of over 22%. The total value of Taiwanese traditional bicycle exports was $1.09 billion, a 14% increase from the $955 million total value exported during the equivalent period in 2017.
