The founder of Cheng Shin Rubber, Luo Jye, passed away on March 15th. He was 95 years old. Luo Jye had already retired because of illness, handing over reins of the company to his second son Lo Tsai-Jen in January 2015.
Luo Jye was born and grew up in Yuanlin, Chang Hua County. After his first job selling candied fruit, he became an apprentice in the tire industry. Later, he joined a joint venture to establish a new tire enterprise. Although that venture was unsuccessful, Luo Jye then went on to found Cheng Hsin Rubber specializing motorcycle and bicycle tires in 1969. Today, Zhengxin has become a global multinational company, and its brand, Maxxis has become the world's top 10 tire brands.
