Washington D.C., USA – As a further increase in the ongoing trade war between the United States and China, as of September 1, the USA started imposing an additional 15% Section 301 tariff on many bicycle products that had previously escaped having extra tariffs imposed.
Products coming under this new set of tariffs include bicycle helmets, lights apparel and a variety of products such as kickstands, carriers, racks, fenders, handlebars, stems, seatposts and other items included under the 8714.99.8000 HS code. These are all products on the List 4a category. The only bicycle product that does not currently have any extra duty imposed are balance bikes—which is on List 4b and set to receive additional tariffs of 15% starting on December 15th.
US president Trump has also tweeted that the US will increase the tariffs on List 1, 2 and 3 products from 25% to 30% on October 1st.
