Giant has announced that it is postponing the opening of its new global operations headquarters due to the coronavirus epidemic.
The opening of the new headquarters had been scheduled for March 3rd, however, as the severity of the coronavirus epidemic continues to increase, the company has decided to put off the event until an as-yet-unspecified date. A press release issued by the company stated, “It will be held another day depending on the epidemic control situation.”
As of February 10, 2020, there are 40,551 confirmed cases of coronavirus infections and 910 deaths. Of these, 40,171 cases and all but two deaths were in mainland China. Although Taiwan only has 18 registered cases of infection with no deaths, the re-opening of schools after Chinese New Year has been put back by two weeks to February 25 in order to help combat further spread.
Giant's decision follows on from Velo's announcement that it has canceled its annual welcoming dinner at the Taipei Cycle show. The event was due to be hosted by Velo, Prologo and Wellgo on the before the show started. Additionally, rumors are rife in the industry on the island that this year's Taipei show will be canceled. Show organizers and TAITRA are due to make an announcement on this issue tomorrow, February 11.
