Taipei International Cycle Show organizers are due to make an announcement on February 11 regarding a possible postponement or cancellation of this year's show. This year's event is due to be held at the Nangang Exhibition Center in Taipei from March 4-7, 2020. Bike industry sources in Taiwan have stated that they believe the event will be canceled and an alternative smaller show held in its place in May.
After initially announcing on January 31 that the show would go ahead as planned, albeit with increased health protection measures, show organizers conducted a Chinese language survey of exhibitors asking for feedback as to whether this year's show should go ahead as planned or not. That survey is now completed and organizers have arranged a press conference to announce their decision.
As of February 10, 2020, there are 40,551 confirmed cases of coronavirus infections and 910 deaths. Of these, 40,171 cases and all but two deaths were in mainland China. In Taiwan, there have been 18 registered cases of infection with no deaths. Last week, Giant Manufacturing postponed the opening of its new headquarters in Taichung, and Velo canceled its annual welcoming dinner for Taipei show. Both events were due to be held on March 3, the day before the show opened.
In China, many factories remain closed, awaiting official government approval to re-open after an enforced extended shutdown for Chinese New Year.
