Shimano, a cycling and sports recreation business based in Japan, announced a further shutdown of one of their plants. Shimano has four manufacturing factories in Southeast Asia, based in China, Malaysia, and Singapore. Due to the spread of COVID-19, the factory based in Malaysia will not reopen after its original expected date, June 29th. The government has the shut down extended indefinitely for the time being.
Malaysia boasts a weekly average of 6,500 cases. Although Singapore has significantly less grim numbers, their manufacturing production will be affected by the halt in Malaysia. Further details are unclear how much of Singapore will face impact. However, the repercussions are dependent on the time Malaysia's factory stays inactive.
