Taipei, Taiwan – Taiwan Bicycle Association (TBA) has released bicycle exports figures from Taiwan for the first four months of 2017. The data shows that bicycle exports are continuing the drop that began last year, while ebike exports are continuing to flourish.

According to TBA statistics, Taiwan exported a total of 839,107 bicycles between January and April this year, down 20.95% from the 1,061,482 units exported over the same period last year. The average unit value of each bike increased to $454.82 up by 3.33% from $440.17 last year. The total value of global bicycle exports from Taiwan in the first four months of 2017 was $381,644,094 a fall of 18.32% from $467,230,400 total value during the same period last year.

The biggest falls came in Taiwanese bike exports to Asia, with unit export volumes to Japan, South Korea and China slumping by 42%, 74% and 58% respectively. Exports to the EU in the first four months of 2017 were  519,459 units, a drop of 19% compared to the  642,501 units exported in the same period last year. Bike exports to the US fell slightly less with 137,841 shipped up until April 30, down 7.87% from the 149,621 units shipped in the same period in 2016.

While the decreasing bike exports from Taiwan is a trend continuing on from last year, so too is the growth in ebike exports. From January to April this year, the island exported 61,720 ebikes, up 32.87% from the 46,450 units export in the same period of 2016. As the average unit value increased by 19.31% to $1,186.80, the total export value of ebikes from Taiwan in the first four months of 2017 was $73,249,604, up a large 58.53% from the total value of $46,206,035 exported last year.

Taiwan bicycle exports have continued to slump during the first 4 months of 2017.
