After a lengthy 19-year process and the oversight of three successive mayors, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Taichung Dome, the city's largest sports arena, took place on March 11th amidst the presence of thousands of spectators and dignitaries. Mayor Lu Shiow-yen expressed her delight at the commencement of construction, emphasizing that the Taichung Dome will fulfill the city's long-standing need for a significant infrastructure venue, capable of meeting development demands for the next century. She expressed her joy at the realization of her campaign promises and aspirations.

Mayor Lu shared a personal note, revealing that the groundbreaking ceremony coincided with her wedding anniversary, stating, "I hope this brings good luck!"

"I have never forgotten my commitment to the citizens – to build a dome for Taichung, for Central Taiwan!" Mayor Lu proclaimed. She stressed the importance of having a grand arena in every great city, where tens of thousands of citizens can comfortably enjoy large-scale performances, entertainment, or sporting events without exposure to the elements. To achieve this vision, Taichung enlisted the renowned Japanese architect, Mr. Kengo Kuma, designer of Japan's Olympic main stadium and one of the world's top architects. The Taichung Dome is slated for completion in 2030 and is expected to mark a significant milestone in aligning the city with international standards.
