Bicycling Alliance for Sustainability (BAS) hosted the "2024 BAS ESG Initiative Forum " on the morning of the second day of the Taipei Exhibition, inviting representatives from the International Bicycle Association and various international organizations including WFSGI, CONEBI, CIE, EBMA, LEVA USA, PeopleForBikes, as well as TBA, CHC, and TAITRA. The forum received support from Vice President of the Legislative Yuan, Jiang Qi-Chen, and Director-General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Yang Chih-Ching. Numerous domestic and international bicycle industry representatives participated, gathering to discuss the sustainable development of the bicycle industry in the context of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.

Chairman Young Liu of BAS outlined the eight major directions for ESG sustainability advocacy, including carbon footprint verification, carbon emission reduction, circular economy, environmental protection, diversity and inclusivity, ESG education and training, promotion of cycling carbon credits, and alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The forum, centered around BAS's sustainable advocacy, invited foreign public associations to sign the advocacy, collectively promoting ESG. Chairman Liu shared the overall benefits of BAS members' sustainable development efforts in 2023, with over 80% of members engaging in greenhouse gas inventory checks, actively responding to carbon reduction actions, and achieving remarkable results. BAS proposed the concept of cycling carbon credits, emphasizing that "cyclists should have carbon rights," encouraging consumers to ride bicycles more, collectively reducing carbon emissions, and calling on the government to promote cycling carbon credits to enhance the carbon reduction benefits of cycling. Chairman Liu shared that YouBike had launched the "Carbon Reduction Passbook App" on March 1 this year, which records users' carbon reduction data based on their YouBike rides and allows them to accumulate credits to exchange for prizes at Giant or partner stores.

In response to BAS's advocacy, CEO Kevin Mayne of CIE expressed his support, stating that he looks forward to its success. He pointed out that through collaborative advocacy, the bicycle industry can reduce its carbon footprint, hoping to work with BAS and other organizations to develop relevant strategies for the benefit of the entire bicycle industry, and to make efforts to protect the planet.

Through the sharing of BAS member units during the forum, discussions were held on how the bicycle industry can achieve sustainable development under the guidance of ESG principles. Young Liu expressed hope that through this advocacy forum, more bicycle industry stakeholders will be awakened to the importance of sustainable development, inspiring more companies to practice ESG and promoting the bicycle industry towards a sustainable future. BAS will continue to actively promote sustainable-related projects, promote collaborative development in the industry, and provide more environmentally friendly and innovative choices for cycling enthusiasts.
