Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen Achieves Highest Approval Rating in Taiwan

The results of the 2024 "CommonWealth Magazine Top 5 Local Government Satisfaction Survey" are in, with Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen, Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang, and Lienchiang County Magistrate (Matsu) Wang Chung-ming maintaining their positions in the Top 5. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai and Taitung County Magistrate Rao Ching-ling also made the list for the first time.

Among the leaders, Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen achieved the highest approval rating across the six major cities and all counties in Taiwan, with a satisfaction rate of 72.9%. This marks a 0.3 percentage point increase from the previous year. Mayor Lu's governance score also improved by 0.5 points from last year, reaching 74.5 points, both the highest among the six major cities and the best since the reorganization of municipalities in 2011. Under her leadership, satisfaction in specific areas such as "education," "tourism," and "economy and employment," as well as the overall average satisfaction across eight key areas, reached new heights.

In her acceptance speech, Mayor Lu expressed that she has always treated Taichung as one big family and cared for its citizens as family members. She felt deeply honored and touched to be known as the "Mother Mayor." Winning the five-star rating for two consecutive years is the greatest recognition from the citizens.

Additionally, this year’s Taichung Bike Week will be held from September 24th to 27th at various hotels in Taichung. The event invites bicycle industry professionals and buyers from around the world to participate and share in the festivities.
