Starting in 2025, Georg Honkomp will step down from his position as Chairman of the Board of ZEG, Europe's largest dealer procurement organization. Fred Schierenbeck will take over the role. Since being appointed to the ZEG Board of Directors in 1991, Georg Honkomp has had a profound impact on the German bicycle industry. At that time, the German bicycle market was facing intense competition from DIY stores and supermarkets, which drove down average retail prices. The situation only began to change with the rise of the e-bike trend.
After nearly 40 years of service to ZEG, Honkomp expressed his gratitude to the organization’s members in a farewell letter. He especially thanked two key figures who had a significant influence on his career: ZEG founder Bernhard Lakämper and Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Helmut Stadler.
As CEO of ZEG, Honkomp always prioritized the interests of the members and the cooperative organization. In recent years, ZEG has taken on a more prominent leadership role in the industry, initiating the Munich trade show and successfully acquiring well-known brands such as Hercules, Kettler Alu Rad, and Flyer, further solidifying ZEG's position in the market.
Georg Honkomp’s nearly 40 years of leadership have left a lasting impact on both ZEG and the entire bicycle industry. Fred Schierenbeck will now take on the responsibility and lead ZEG into the next phase of development.
